Who We Are

Emma Maze

Co-Editor in Chief

Emma Maze is the current co-editor in chief of The Watchman's Post, and a highschool senior. Her writing career began as a young teenager, as she sought and achieved publication in magazines for youth including Stone Soup Magazine and Skipping Stones. After spending a year on the student review board of the latter, she decided to branch out and try writing fiction, whereon she completed the NaNoWriMo challenge of drafting a 50,000-word novel in a month. Now her main focus is on this student newspaper and bringing a voice to the homeschool community. She also enjoys theatre, music, and art. She most enjoys writing speculative short stories and literary analysis.

Nathan Mileski

Co-Editior in Chief

Nathan Mileski has been writing since he was 11 years old, when his short novel won 2nd place in 2011 NaNoWriMo. Since then he has pursued the written language, writing books and short stories for fun (he’s in the process of two books at the moment and has published two), reading tons of books, and going for those extra credit assignments in English classes (to make up for his lack of math skills, mostly). He is now 18 and a nerdy jack-of-all-trades when it comes to hobbies. He spends any spare time he can find in his senior year of high school reading mainly fiction and dystopian books, releasing his inner crazy in Theatre, listening to music, and fangirl-ing over Marvel, Lord of the Rings, Percy Jackson, Harry Potter, and The Legend of Zelda. Spreading the light of hope through truth by utilizing his love for the written language is what Nathan hopes to accomplish through this newspaper.

Rachel Daniels

Head of Creative Writing Department

Rachel Daniels is the current head of creative writing departments and a part-time resident writer. She started writing in sixth grade and has a passion for poetry and historical fiction. She’s entered multiple poetry competitions and has received honorable mentions in Magnolia Plantation’s Garden of Romance Poetry Contest. Rachel particularly enjoys haikus and uses it as an outlet to channel her inner sarcasm. She loves creative writing and enjoys thought-provoking, political articles as well as fictional romances. She also takes interest in debating said political opinions and approves of argumentative opinion papers. Currently a sophomore in high school, Rachel likes to express herself through theatre, music, and poetry, and wants to further engage the community through The Watchman’s Post. She hopes that this newspaper can be used as an opportunity to help students, parents, and teachers alike take part in understanding and appreciating the world around them. She hopes to bring light to people’s lives through poetry and stories and to be a positive influence to those around her.

Jordan Newland

Resident Writer

Jordan Newland is a current writer for the Watchman's Post and their residing mad man. He writes about his passions, which are many and diversified. Jordan sails competitively (ever since his first year in high school,) has a passion for automobiles, skis when he can, and received his private pilot's license on his seventeenth birthday (the earliest it can be received.) You could say that he strives to be capable of piloting or driving every vehicle in existence. He listens to classic rock and enjoys dark humor and theatrics, whether written or conversational. Jordan seeps sarcastic bluntness and a bizarre thought process.

Kendall Shafer

Food and Travel Columnist

Kendall Shafer is a future hospitality professional who recently discovered a passion for writing (except research papers.) She is currently a student in the Hospitality and Tourism Management program at Trident Technical College, and will be graduating May 2018. Kendall is a humble foodie, a proud coffee snob, and an aspiring sommelier. She has a serious case of wanderlust and would love to explore the world as a restaurant/hotel critic and travel writer.

Luke Tackett

Resident Writer

Luke is currently a writer for the Watchman’s Post. In junior high, Luke had a desire to write fictional books, but never took the initiative to actually compose a story. Now as a junior in high school, that passion has reawakened and has become a future dream for his career. He believes the Watchman’s Post will provide him the opportunity to practice fulfilling that dream. He loves reading the fantasy genre, particularly Brandon Sanderson’s work, mainly because of the creativity, realism, and application that comes from a non-realistic world. He enjoys Crossfit, reading, and hanging out with his friends. He hopes that through the Watchman’s Post, people will be able to think more critically and walk away inspired.
